ACN Phone Cutting Edge But Marketing Is Old School…

The ACN Video Phone is state-of-the-art technology but why is their marketing strategy "Old School" like something out of the stone age? Can’t ACN get up to speed with current marketing techniques?

ACN began in 1993 and has grown into the world’s largest direct selling telecommunications company. Their products range from the ACN video phone to wireless service and wireless phone to long distance service. Their best known product is the ACN video phone that allows users to connect via video and voice communication.

ACN has jumped on the home business bandwagon. They rely on the network marketing model to promote and sell their products. Basically their approach is to move their products through a network of independent representatives who make sales by sharing the business and products with people they know also known as their "Warm List" of friends and family.

This way of marketing has thrust ACN to the front of the line in their industry. Network marketing has been a lucrative way to sell products since 1949 and has become the marketing arm for a very diverse range of products. It seems today that anything and everything is being sold through MLM.

ACN is doing well but I do have an issue with them. With all of the state-of-the-art technology such as the video phone and the other high tech gadgets and service they offer you would think that they would embrace the same kind of technology in their marketing.

First I should state that I am a professional network marketer and I use current marketing practices such as the internet to grow my business. As I mentioned, ACN uses the MLM approach but teaches their distributors old school selling techniques. What many folks fail to understand is the old silly idea of chasing your friends and family and making a warm list is quickly fading away and has already become very ineffective in building a large team of distributors. This is why 97% of the people who join MLM fail to make any real money.

Let me illustrate this for you. Think for a moment about a business. Let’s use a pizza shop for example. If you owned a pizza shop and you told all of your friends and family about it then I’m sure your friends and family would stop by once every few weeks to buy a pizza. That might sound great but what about the days when your friends and family don’t want pizza. On these days they won’t stop in and you won’t make any sales. My point is you need more that just your friends and family to grow a business. In fact you need a steady flow of customers every day to grow any business that relies on retailing products.

This concept also applies to network marketing. ACN teaches you to make a warm list of everyone you know and then invite them to a business meeting where they will be presented with an ACN phone overview and a presentation on the compensation plan. This may work for a short time but what happens when you run out of people to talk to? Your business begins to die due to lack of prospects. Very few people have a large enough network of contacts to keep them in business for any length of time. The only way to continue the growth in your business is to do marketing and attract new prospects every single day.

One of the most powerful ways to market a business is to market online. All businesses are using the power of the internet to reach potential customers. The odd and amazing thing about ACN is they discourage their reps from using the internet to grow their business. I know this first hand because I have conversed with many ACN reps who told me that their upline told them that using the internet to find leads was a waste of time. This is completely untrue. Reps on my team are generating a huge supply of online leads every day to the point that they have more than they can talk with.

You would think that a company like ACN that has a high tech video phone would consider using current technology to grow their business. Instead they teach a backward, outdated style from the stone ages and ignore the fact that most of their reps are making very little money. So I raise the question, “Why not teach your reps how to market so they can grow their business and earn a healthy income?” I suspect that the leaders at ACN don’t understand how to use the internet and are afraid of it.

I shouldn’t pick on ACN because this is an industry wide problem. Most MLM companies do not teach marketing. If you think chasing your friends and family is marketing then you are dead wrong. When you have marketing in place the leads call you and chase you down. It’s a completely different approach than what is taught in the MLM industry. It’s time for the industry to get caught up with current times.
